Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru will be screened at the prestigious and world famous Golden Globe Awards in January 2021. The 78th edition of Golden Globe Awards will take place in March 2021 and ahead of the grand event, the screening for foreign language films will be held in January. Having said that, Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru has been selected to be screened at the Golden Globe Awards and if it gets selected for further rounds, we may even witness the film in the final round of nominations. Along with Soorarai Pottru, Dhanush’s Asuran, Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji, Lijo Jose Pellissery's Jallikattu (Malayalam), Anurag Basu's Ludo, will also be screened.

It is indeed great to see two Tamil movies making their way into the Golden Globe Awards and let us hope that both the films make a strong impression among the overseas audience. The news about Soorarai Pottru getting screened at Golden Globe Awards was officially shared by Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian, who is the director of 2D Entertainment. Suriya’s fans are celebrating this massive feat on social media with special hashtags and newer posters. Soorarai Pottru which had a direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video on November 12 opened to highly positive reviews from the critics and audience and the worldwide audience celebrated the film in a grand manner. The film managed to garner wide attention despite releasing on an OTT platform. Soorarai Pottru was lauded for director Sudha Kongara’s conviction, strongly impactful performances of the lead actors, GV Prakash Kumar’s striking music and more. Suriya’s raging performance as Maara was also one of the most talking points of the movie and everyone was moved watching him perform.

Soorarai Pottru featured Aparna Balamurali as the female lead who essayed the role of Bommi with grace. Produced by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, the film’s star cast also included Paresh Rawal, Mohan Babu, Oorvashi, Vivek Prasanna, Karunaas, KK, in important roles. Soorarai Pottru had music by GV Prakash, cinematography by Niketh Bommi, editing by Sathish Suriya, and art direction by Jacki. The film is based on the real life story of Captain GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan Airlines.
