In a completely shocking incident, popular Vijay TV serial Thenmozhi BA actor Selvarathinam was hacked to death at MGR Nagar in Chennai on Saturday. A supporting actor on several notable television serials, Selvarathinam, 41, played a vital role in Thenmozhi BA, which has been airing on Vijay TV since August 2019. A Sri Lankan refugee, the actor's wife and his children are at a camp in the Virudhunagar district. 

In a statement by the police, Selvarathinam, on Saturday had not gone for shooting and was staying with his friend Mani, an assistant director. They added that the actor received a phone call in the early hours of Sunday and had left the place while informing Mani that he was heading to meet his friends, without revealing any further details. That said, Selvarathinam's roommate soon received information that he was hacked to death by an unidentified group of men on Anna Nedumpathai. The assistant director quickly alerted the police, who soon rushed to the spot and sent his body to the Government Hospital in Royapettah for the post-mortem. The police added that they obtained CCTV footage showing the incident and four men moving around in a suspicious manner near the spot of the gruesome murder. They stated that the gang had come in an autorickshaw and had a brief argument with Selvarathinam before killing him. 

Selvarathinam's family members have stated that he did not share any enmity with anyone. A case has been registered and investigating officials have said that call records of the actor are currently being examined to identify the last call made. They added that they have also acquired a set of phone numbers the actor frequently used to call. The police also stated that pictures of a few of the accused have been taken and a search for them has already been launched.
