The entire world has been affected in some way or the other, with the outbreak of the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic. The Corona Virus is said to have originated from the Wuhan Province in China and has been raging across the world, right from the beginning of this year. It has already claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, despite almost all the nations going into total lockdown to control the spread of this deadly virus. Though the lockdown helped with the control of the virus spread, it also resulted in many people losing their livelihoods and the economies of many nations have gone into a downward spiral. Many people have lost their jobs and are currently without a job or searching for one.

For sportspersons, having another career is mostly never possible and in a sport as demanding as Cricket, it is almost impossible! The COVID Pandemic has caused the postponement of many global events, including a majority of the sporting events. The T20 World Cup was originally set to happen this year but it got postponed amidst the Pandemic scare. This actually worked out in favour of the Indian Premier League as it happened during the window scheduled for the World Cup. Though player from most cricket playing nations participate in the IPL, some nations don't have their representatives playing in it. Some countries like Netherlands, Kenya, Canada, Hong Kong, Nepal and a few others, which are Associate Nations with the International Cricket Council, only get to play in World events.

A tweet by a Netherlands player has caused many heartbreaks for many Cricket players. Paul Van Meekeren, a leading bowler for Netherlands, has tweeted that at a time when he had dreamed of playing in the World Cup, he is currently delivering food for the Uber Eats app, for his sustenance. The postponement of the T20 World Cup was due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic and it is very disheartening to see this situation for an international sportsperson. We had also come across such similar stories for players of other sports in India, earlier. Paul Van Meekeren's tweet read, "Should’ve been playing cricket today. now I’m delivering Uber eats to get through the winter months!! Funny how things change hahaha keep smiling people (sic)". Meekeren has played 5 ODIs and 41 T20Is for Netherlands and is also a part of the English County side Somerset. He last featured in a T20 game against Papua New Guinea, on November 2nd, 2019!
