A film that won the hearts of everyone since its release in 2020, Suriya's Soorarai Pottru took home top honors at the 68th National Film Awards on Friday, July 22. Directed by Sudha Kongara and produced jointly by Suriya's 2D Entertainment and Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment banners and featuring music by G. V. Prakash Kumar, the action drama film also starring Aparna Balamurali won awards for the Best Film, Best Actor (Male), Best Actor (Female), Best Music Director (Background Score) and Best Screenplay. With the news of Soorarai Pottru winning five National Awards taking social media by storm, congratulatory messages and wishes have been pouring in for the team from leading celebrities and personalities from all walks of life. 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin conveyed his wishes by congratulating actor Suriya, director Sudha Kongara, actress Aparna Balamurali, composer G. V. Prakash Kumar, and the Soorarai Pottru team on Twitter. The most notable names in Tamil cinema to send across their love are actors Karthi, Dhanush, Keerthy Suresh, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Khushbu Sundar, Madhavan, Arya, RJ Balaji and Sasikumar, followed by leading directors like Lokesh Kanagaraj, Venkat Prabhu, Pandiraj, Vasanth, producer and distributor S. Loosely based on the life of Air Deccan founder Captain G. R. Gopinath, Soorarai Pottru premiered on Amazon Prime Video in November 2020 after skipping a theatrical release due to the rise in the number of Covid-19 cases at the time. The film has since turned out to be a phenomenal success and a cult classic for the streamer and continues to be praised for its performances and technical aspects.
