'Thalapathy' Vijay has been on a roll over the past few years as his films turning out to be money-spinners at the box office, with his latest release, Master, which came out as a Pongal treat earlier this year in January, proving to be a strong testimony to his massive star power. Vijay, who is currently working on the tentatively titled Thalapathy 65, under Nelson Dilipkumar's direction being produced by Sun Pictures, will be joining hands for Thalapathy 66 with blockbuster Telugu film director Vamshi Paidipally for a bilingual. News of the collaboration for Thalapathy 66 has been confirmed by Vamshi while speaking to Telugu media, with the project revealed to be a Dil Raju production, whose last film was the Pawan Kalyan starrer, Vakeel Saab.

There have been strong speculations regarding Vijay's Thalapathy 66, with producer Dil Raju revealed to have been in talks with the superstar for a while now. Speaking to Telugu media, Vamshi Paidipally has confirmed that he and Vijay would be collaborating for the project once the actor completes filming his ongoing Thalapathy 65 with Nelson Dilipkumar, which has been put on hold in view of the lockdown in Tamil Nadu due to the COVID-19 pandemic. An official announcement from the team regarding the cast and crew for Thalapathy 66 is now being awaited, with Vamshi adding that further details will be revealed after the lockdown, while also stating that the project would have been announced earlier if not for the coronavirus pandemic. 

Vamshi Paidipally has risen to become a hotshot director in Telugu cinema, especially after his Maharshi with superstar Mahesh Babu turned out to be one of the biggest box office blockbusters in the actor's career. Likewise, Vamshi doing a Tamil-Telugu bilingual with Vijay for Thalapathy 66 won't be new considering the director had previously worked with Karthi in Oopiri, which was Simultaneously shot in Tamil as Thozha
