Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan: 1, produced by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies released a few months back stunned audiences everywhere and went on to cross more than 500 crores in worldwide box office collections. The epic historical action drama pan-Indian film released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada languages, featured chart-topping music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, and garnered a stellar viewership upon its premiere on Amazon Prime Video after its theatrical release. With many fans still debating about the cliffhanger ending in Ponniyin Selvan: 1 and how the upcoming sequel Ponniyin Selvan: 2 will turn out to be, Lyca Productions has now announced that there is something special being planned up ahead, which will be revealed on Wednesday, December 28, at 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies took to their social media handles and shared a new poster informing fans to keep a close watch on their space tomorrow, with fans expecting the update to be regarding the release plans of Ponniyin Selvan: 2. Although there is no direct hint about the PS: 2 release date in their latest announcement, it is being widely speculated that the makers will want to give fans something big as a New Year treat. Earlier, it had been stated that Ponniyin Selvan: 2 is set for a grand summer release and will be coming out in April 2023, and all eyes will undoubtedly be on the announcement tomorrow. There is also considerable chatter regarding the Ponniyin Selvan: 1 soundtrack, which composer A. R. Ponniyin Selvan: 2 will see 'Chiyaan' Vikram reprising his role as Aditha Karikalan alongside Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman aka Ponniyin Selvan, Karthi as Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan, Trisha as Kundavai Devi, while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be appearing in dual roles as Nandini and Mandakini Devi. The upcoming sequel will also see the return of a majority of the ensemble cast that includes Aishwarya Lekshmi, R. Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Jayaram, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, Ashwin Kakumanu, Nizhalgal Ravi, Lal, Vijaykumar, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, Jayachitra, Vidya Subramanian, Nassar, Kishore, Riyaz Khan, Mohan Raman, among others in major supporting roles.
