'Thalapathy' Vijay is waiting for the release of the highly-anticipated Varisu scheduled to come out in cinemas worldwide for Pongal in January 2023. With preparations already underway for the upcoming family entertainer's release, there has also been a huge buzz surrounding the Tamil superstar's next big film, the tentatively titled Thalapathy 67, which will be directed by blockbuster filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj. With a formal pooja already done for the Vijay-Lokesh Kanagaraj duo’s next film earlier this month, veteran Tamil actor Mansoor Ali Khan revealed that he too will be a part of Thalapathy 67 at the Galatta Digital Stars 2022 awards ceremony.

Gracing the grand Galatta Digital Stars 2022 awards ceremony, Mansoor Ali Khan confirmed for the first time that he will indeed be seen in Thalapathy 67, while also revealing that he also has a key role in a pan-Indian film, which will be announced soon. He added, "I played the role of the villain in Thalapathy's debut film (Naalaiya Theerpu - 1992) and we have worked together in nearly 10 films. I wasn't able to act with him over the years, but I'm happy to be reuniting with him in his next film." It is well-known the admiration Lokesh Kanagaraj has for Mansoor Ali Khan, with the filmmaker on several occasions stating how he had initially envisioned Kaithi for him, with the role eventually going to Karthi.

Thalapathy 67 has created massive expectations among fans even before the film's official announcement and will mark the big reunion for Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj after their 2021 box office money-spinner Master. Leading South Indian actress Trisha has already been confirmed to be a part of the project and will see her sharing screen space with Vijay once again after 15 years when they starred in films like Ghilli (2004), Thirupaachi (2005), Aathi (2006), and Kuruvi (2008).
