Ponniyin Selvan: I is a Tamil epic historical action drama film directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah under the banners of Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. The film serves as the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name. It hit the screens on September 30 and opened to rave reviews from both fans and critics alike who praised it for the direction, cast performances, musical score, visuals, and faithfulness to the novel.
Recently, the makers of the film dropped the official video song of 'Ratchasa Maamaney' earlier dropped today (October 21), and it is already receiving an overwhelming response from the public just as it was received in the theatres upon the film's release. It was only a few days back that the video song of 'Chola Chola' was also released. With 6 songs in the whole movie and 2 being released already, fans cannot wait for the other 4 songs which are also equally good.
Ponniyin Selvan: l features a stellar ensemble cast comprising of stars like Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, R. Parthiban and Lal. The music was composed by Isaipuyal A. R. Rahman, with cinematography by Ravi Varman, editing by A. Sreekar Prasad, and production design by Thota Tharani.
The film has broken several box office records, grossing over Rs. 450 crores and has become the highest-grossing Tamil film of this year. The shooting for the second part of Ponniyin Selvan has been completed and is currently in its post-production phase. The film is expected to release sometime next year in the summer of 2023.
