One film that has been awaited by fans everywhere since it was first announced in 2019, Ajith Kumar's Valimai directed by H. Vinoth under Boney Kapoor's Bayview Projects LLP banner is gearing up for a grand theatrical release on February 24. The date holds significance, especially for producer Boney Kapoor, as it is also the death anniversary of his late wife Sridevi. The legendary actress, who passed away on February 24, 2018, continues to be hailed and was the face of Indian cinema since the mid-1970s and had appeared in films in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages. Sridevi had a pivotal role in the formation of the Boney Kapoor and Ajith Kumar partnership after the actress first collaborated with the Tamil superstar in English Vinglish in 2012. The Hindi venture, which was also shot in Tamil featured Ajith in a special cameo, after which Sridevi suggested that he work in a film under husband Boney Kapoor's banner. And, there has been no looking back since then as the duo has collaborated on two films together so far, Nerkonda Paarvai (2019) and the upcoming Valimai, with another venture in the pipeline. February 24 is often considered as a remembrance day for Sridevi's family and it is bound to change from this year for them with the release of Valimai. Although the date has been of sorrow these past few years, going forward, the film will serve as a positive change for the family.

Valimai, which is produced by Boney Kapoor's Bayview Projects LLP in association with Zee Studios, is also the second consecutive collaboration for Ajith Kumar with director H. Vinoth and composer Yuvan Shankar after their 2019 blockbuster, Nerkonda Paarvai, an official remake of the Hindi film Pink, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu in the lead roles. The action thriller will see Ajith playing the role of a cop, who goes up against a gang of bikers for their crimes, and has Kaala fame Huma Qureshi as the female lead. The buzz of the action film has been massive and is long-awaited by fans after it suffered an unexpected setback like any other production venture due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Planned initially for a Diwali 2020 release, Valimai is expected to take a sensational opening later this month in theatres as the film's promotional material has received a stellar response from fans.
