Owing to the recent surge in the Covid 19 and Omicron cases in the country, the grand theatrical release of mega biggies like Rajamouli's RRR, Prabhas Radhe Shyam, and Ajith Kumars Valimai were postponed. All three films were supposed to release during the Pongal / Sankranti festive week this month. Having said that, one more biggie which was scheduled to release for this Pongal has been postponed indefinitely. Dulquer Salmaan's action cop story, Salute which was supposed to release in theatres on January 14 for Pongal has now been postponed to a later date due to the recent spike in the Covid 19 cases and a new release date is expected to be announced once the situation comes under control.

Announcing the postponement, Dulquer Salmaan wrote on his official Instagram page, "We at Wayfarer films are bound to show social responsibility ahead of our personal interests. Just like all of you, we were most excited and eagerly awaiting our next release. Owing to recent developments and the spike in Covid-19 and Omicron cases, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the release of “Salute”. We apologise if we’ve disappointed you. But in times like this we must prioritise health and safety. We request everyone to stay safe. We will be back. At the earliest. We thank each and every one of you for your support. #Salute #Salutepostponed #SafetyFirst #OurApologies."

Salute features Dulquer Salmaan in the role of a police officer and the film is directed by Rosshan Andrrews of 36 Vayadhinile and Mumbai Police fame. Produced by Wayfarer Films, this movie is written by Bobby - Sanjay, with music and editing departments headed by Jakes Bejoy and Sreekar Prasad respectively. Dulquer Salmaan's last theatrical release was Kurup which turned out to be a success at the box office and he will be looking to continue the success momentum with Salute.
