A film that surprised audiences across the nation and stormed its way into record viewership on OTT and television, K. G. F: Chapter 1, released in late 2018 went on to be dubbed in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi as well. The film’s hero, Yash, since then has gone on to become a rage among the youth. Post the massive success of the first installment in the two-part series, director Prashant Neel has been working on the sequel titled, K. G. F: Chapter 2, which is once again being produced under Vijay Kiragandur’s Hombale Films banner and has Yash, reprising his role as Raja Krishnappa Bairya aka. Rocky. He is being joined by Srinidhi Shetty, who is playing the female lead as Reena, with Sanjay Dutt cast as the dreaded Adheera. With production nearing completion, the film's music director Ravi Basrur made an announcement through a social media story that he is looking for musicians who can play instruments such as the trumpet, tuba and trombone. He further added that they were required for the recording on KGF: Chapter 2

Production on KGF: Chapter 2 resumed in August, after the film's shooting was stalled for a period of nearly five months due to the nationwide lockdown imposed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic crisis. Based on Ravi Basrur's latest update, we can expect the post-production works to carry forward in full swing in the days ahead, including a word on the plans for the film's release for which fans have been waiting for quite some time. The film will also include several notable names  such as Malavika Avinash, Anant Nag, Archana Jois, Vasishta N Simha, Avinash BS, Achyuth Kumar, Balakrishna, while Prakash Raj, Raveena Tandon, Saran Shakthi are some of the new additions to the cast. As with the first film, KGF 2 will be dubbed in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu languages. Expectations for the sequel are massive among fans especially in Tamil Nadu, considering the 2018 original film turned out to be a surprise hit.

Earlier this year, Yash revealed that KGF 2 will include double the action in comparison to the first film that came out nearly two years back. He subsequently went on to dismiss reports that he and director Prashanth Neel had decided to bring down the violence in KGF: Chapter 2, while adding that everything is going to be bigger in the film, which includes the action sequences as well. He went on to state that the fights would be bloodier, more gory and longer than what was witnessed in the first KGF film as his character and Sanjay Dutt as the dreaded Adheera will be going full out on each other with more brawn power.
