The Indian Premier League (IPL) is truly up and running and we just witnessed the 14th match of this year's edition, between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, at Dubai! SRH won the toss and captain David Warner decided to bat first, the only captain who has opted to bat after winning the toss this year, and that too twice! There were three changes in CSK's team as Ambati Rayudu, DJ Bravo and Shardul Thakur returned to the team. CSK had a very good start when Deepak Chahar broke through Jonny Bairstow's defences and had him bowled off the very first over! However, Manish Pandey and David Warner began rebuilding before Pandey got out for 29 off 21 balls, to a good catch by Sam Curran, off Shardul Thakur's bowling! This brought Kane Williamson to the crease and he was beginning to put up a stand with Warner before they were both out off consecutive balls! Warner's inning ended due to a stupendous catch on the boundary by Faf du Plessis and Williamson to a good bit of fielding by Rayudu, where there was some miscommunication between Williamson and Priyam Garg.
This brought out young Abhishek Sharma out to join the other youngster Priyam Garg. After slowly settling down, the dashing duo put on a brilliant 77-run partnership. Abhishek scored briskly but lost his wicket to Chahar to a catch by Dhoni. However, Garg continued unabated and smashed Curran for back-to-back boundaries and a six, to bring up his fifty. Garg remained unbeaten on 51 and SRH had set CSK a very tough 165 to win the game! CSK had a very sedate start to their chase with both Watson and Faf du Plessis struggling to get going. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar had Watson bowled in the third over to leave CSK at 4/1! Rayudu also took his time to start but was bowled by a peach of a delivery from the left-arm pacer T Natarajan! Just as Faf was beginning to start showing some form, he got out to a run-out on 22! Kedar Jadhav's troubled stay at the crease was ended when he holed out to Warner, off Abdul Samad's bowling! Captain Cool MS Dhoni was then joined by Jadeja but both batsmen found the going to be very tough!
Having settled in, Jadeja unfurled his range of strokes and breezed to a 50 of 35 balls, before falling to the very next ball! This is Jadeja's first ever 50 in the IPL! Today, Dhoni also become the highest capped player in the IPL after crossing Raina, with 194 appearances! The required rate was becoming highly impossible with nearly 64 runs needed off the last 3 overs! However, CSK have shown that they can overcome anything as long as they have MSD at the crease and Jadeja too was in full flow! There was heavy drama on the ground as Bhuvaneshwar Kumar began bowling the 19th over but pulled up with a strain after bowling just 1 ball. After a lot of time and the physio's efforts, he still wasn't able to bowl and walked off the field. Khaleel Ahmed was brought on to complete the 19th over and Dhoni was on strike but he was struggling with exhaustion too. After an eventful 19th over, CSK brought down the requirement to 28 off the last over with Dhoni on strike! The 20th over too started with a reprieve for CSK as Samad bowled a wide, which ran away to the boundary, bringing down the equation to 23 runs of 6 balls! Despite Sam Curran and Dhoni's best efforts, CSK fell short by 7 runs in the end. We guess, they just left too little to the end! Priyam Garg was adjudged Player of the Match for his swashbuckling fifty! Let's hope CSK get back to winning ways, with their next match!
