The first match of double-header Super Sunday saw CSK marching to a comfortable win by 8 wickets, over RCB! The second match was between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians! Rajasthan Royals were in desperate need of a win while Mumbai Indians winning would consolidate their position at the top of the table! Pollard won the toss and decided that MI would bat first. RR remained unchanged while MI replaced Coulter-Nile with Pattinson. de Kock seemed in pristine form as he lofted Archer for a 6 off the 4th ball of the match but Archer got the last laugh as he took out QDK, the very next ball! However, Ishan Kishan seemed to continue from where he left off in last match and hit the ground running with a brace of boundaries. Suryakumar Yadav too seemed to be in fine nick and punished Karthik Tyagi. By the end of the Powerplay, MI were at a healthy 59/1 with both the batsman hitting the ball really well!
Gopal and Tewatia bowled a few tight overs with just a couple of boundaries being given, before Tyagi returned in the 11th over to get his revenge on Ishan Kishan, thanks to a spectacular catch by Archer! Then, Gopal removed Yadav for a well-made 40 to leave MI on 95/3! Pollard walked in and smacked a six but got out a couple of balls later, to give Gopal his 2nd wicket of the over! This brought out Hardik Pandya to join Saurabh Tiwary at the crease. The duo took some time to settle in but started teeing off in style as Tiwary plundered 17 runs off Archer's 17th over and Pandya creamed Rajpoot's 18th over for 27 runs! Thankfully, Archer took out Tiwary off the 1st ball of the 19th over, to another catch by Stokes. Unfortunately for Tyagi, Pandya was still at the crease and he took full toll of the bowler's 20th over to get another 27 runs and finished on 60 not out, from 21 balls! MI had finished on 195/5 and RR needed to get a mammoth 196 to win against the best bowling side in IPL 2020!
While many were expecting Buttler to replace Stokes as opener, RR decided to stick with their opening combination of Stokes and Uthappa! Uthappa started off positively with a couple of 4s against Pattinson in the 2nd over but fell to a mis-hit in the same over. Stokes began to show off his range with four 4s in the 3rd over bowled by Boult. Smith then deposited Bumrah's bowling for 12 runs in the 4th over. However, he was out in the 5th over, bowled by Pattinson. The situation looked all too familiar for RR, who have gone on to lose some quick wickets and eventually the gamke from there on. However, today was not that kind of a day. Stokes decided to own the night and Samson gave him astute company as the duo stabilised the innings and eventually tore apart MI's bowling! By the end of 10 overs, RR were 99/2 and Stokes had reached his 50 off just 28 balls with Samson slowly getting his eye in. Samson then began to match Stokes stroke-for-stroke and the duo complemented each other effectively as Samson reached a 50 and Stokes got the first ever century by a foreign player in IPL 2020! They finished the match with 10 balls to spare and handed RR a much needed 8-wicket win! RR are now on 6th place in the Points Table and Ben Stokes received a well-deserved Player of the Match award!
