The IPL is known for giving us the most unexpected situations, in the least expected of times! The second of today's (Saturday) double-header was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab! Warner won the toss and asked KXIP to bat first. There were a couple of changes for KXIP while SRH had just 1 change. Mayank Agarwal, who sustained some bruises during his run-out in the last game, had to sit out. KL Rahul and Mandeep Singh opened the innings for KXIP. Just as Rahul was setting himself up for a good start, Mandeep fell to Sandeep Sharma in the 5th over, becoming his 100th IPL wicket. The Universe Boss Gayle came in, on the back of some good form and displayed it today too. He tonked a few shots but the bowlers kept things very tight till Gayle's West Indian teammate Holder, had him caught by Warner for 20! KXIP had reached 66/2 in 10 overs. Rashid Khan got Rahul with a magical delivery, off the 1st ball of the 11th over and it looked like all of KXIP's good work in laying a foundation had been disrupted, with 2 new batsmen at the crease!
The SRH bowlers kept the run-scoring very tight and when Maxwell tried to hit out, he lost his wicket for just 12 runs. Deepak Hooda departed in the very next over by Rashid Khan and KXIP had slumped to 88/5 by the end of the 15th over. Pooran and Chris Jordan could not get going at all and Jordan edged out on 7! Murugan Ashwin was run-out next over, to a direct hit and KXIP looked highly unlikely to even reach 125! 9 runs off the last over took #KXIP to 126/7, a very below par score considering SRH's explosive batting! Bairstow and Warner walked out to open for SRH and got going off the very first ball, with a couple of runs. Warner seemed in very good touch and with a couple of 6s in the first 2 overs itself, he moved to 18 off 10 balls and SRH were cruising at 22/0! By the end of the Powerplay, SRH had powered to 52/0 and were effortlessly looking at an easy victory.
Ravi Bishnoi was welcomed to the bowling crease with a boundary by Warner but got Warner off the very next ball after a review. Ashwin came on the next over and had Bairstow castled with a peach of a ball. Shami next returned to take out Abdul Samad and by the end of the 10 overs, SRH were 70/3 with just 57 runs needed off 60 balls! After playing out a couple of tight overs, Vijay Shankar broke the shackles with a couple if boundaries in the 14th over and another 1 in the 15th! Jordan came on in the 17th over to take out Manish Pandey to a good catch by substitute fielder Suchith but Shankar was still going along well! A freak mishap in the 18th over saw Vijay Shankar being hit on the helmet by a throw, while running between the wickets! However, he got out the very next ball, leaving SRH 17 to get off 12 balls with 5 wickets in hand! Jordan turned the game on its head with an explosive 19th over, which went for just 3 runs but got the wickets of Holder and Rashid Khan, off consecutive deliveries! Arshdeep Singh was tasked with defending 14 off the last over and he got Sandeep Sharma for a duck, with his 2nd ball! The very next ball, the youngster Priyam Garg hold out to Jordan and by the 5th ball, Khaleel Ahmed got run-out and became the last SRH wicket to fall. In a stunning turnaround, KXIP had won by 13 runs and Chris Jordan was awarded the Player of the match!
