The down and out MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings took on Virat Kohli's hot-in-form Royal Challengers Bangalore, in the first match of double-header Sunday! Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first, on what looked like a slow track! Jharkand all-rounder Monu Singh got his debut for CSK, in place of Shardul Thakur and Mitchell Santner replaced Josh Hazlewood. Moeen Ali replaced Isuru Udana for RCB. Padikkal and Finch opened for RCB and Finch got going with 2 consecutive 4s off Chahar! Monu Kumar gave away 7 runs in his first over and a bowling change brought Sam Curran to bowl the 4th over and instantly reaped rewards as Finch mishit a flier to be out on 15! Padikkal and Kohli combined to take RCB to 46/1 in the Powerplay, before Padikkal got out of the 1st ball of the 7th over to Santner, to a very good combined effort by Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis on the boundary for a lovely catch! AB de Villiers and Kohli combined to take RCB to 72/2 by the end of the 10th over!

Tahir and Jadeja bowled a few good overs to slow the run rate, despite a couple of boundaries off Tahir. However, ABD and Kohli put up a 50 partnership, only their second against CSK. When the going got tough, ABD tried to hit out but got caught on the boundary for 39! Curran came on to bowl a wonderful 19th over, getting Moeen Ali and Kohli too, just after he hit a 50. The over went for just 6 runs. With two new players at the crease, Chahar came on to bowl and got Morris bowled as RCB completed their 20 overs on 145/6, with just 20 runs coming off the last 3 overs! CSK needed 146 to win against RCB while a win for the latter would have taken them to the top of the table! Gaikwad and Faf walked out to open for CSK and get them off to a sedate start with just 1 run coming off the first over by Washington Sundar! However, du Plessis got going the very next over and hit a 4 and a 6 off Morris. Gaikwad too got into the act and walloped 11 runs of Sundar's next over! However, special treatment was reserved for Siraj, who was tonked all over the ground for 15 runs off his first over.

CSK lost Faf to the first ball of the 6th over but finished their Powerplay on a decent 48/1! Chahal and Moeen Ali combined to bring on spin from both ends for RCB but Gaikwad and Rayudu were up for the task. By the end of the 10th over, CSK were 82/1 and needed just 64 runs from the remaining 10 overs! Against the run of the game, Chahal got Rayudu bowled for 39, with a lovely delivery and this brought out MSD at 4! CSK needed 30 runs from 36 balls but it looked like CSK would definitely not wait around for that long! Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad notched up his maiden half-century for CSK and looked rock solid while scoring all around the ground! He wrapped up the win in style with a 4 and a 6 off Morris in the 19th over to take CSK to an 8-wicket victory, with 8 balls to spare. Gaikwad was rewarded with the Player of the Match for his wonderful effort with the bat! Stay tuned for the report from today's other match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals!
