A film that has been languishing in development hell for a long time is Indian 2 starring Kamal Haasan under Shankar's direction being produced by Lyca Productions. The sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian, the upcoming film has undergone delays in filming at every juncture due to several reasons that include acquiring permission for the shooting, the production set-up, funding, Kamal Haasan's makeup issues, the tragic crane accident, the coronavirus pandemic, and the subsequent lockdowns. That being said, actor-politician Udhayanidhi Stalin during the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Don success meet on Monday informed media persons that talks are currently underway to resume production on Kamal Haasan's Indian 2

Speaking at the Don success meet, Udhayanidhi revealed that he has been holding discussions with Lyca Productions' Subaskaran Allirajah about kick-starting the work on Indian 2 once again. Based on his statement, it is assumed that he will likely be coming on board Indian 2 either as a producer or as a distributor of the film. It is to be noted that Udhayanidhi distributed Lyca Productions' Don and Kamal Haasan's Vikram under his Red Giant Movies banner, with both films tasting massive success at the box office.

Udhayanidhi Stalin's recent statement on Indian 2 will now give hope to fans everywhere in witnessing Kamal Haasan once again in action as the character Senapathi after the promotional stills unveiled during production received a huge response from fans. The film has an ensemble star cast featuring Kajal Aggarwal, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth, Bobby Simha, Samuthirakani, including the late Nedumudi Venu and Vivekh, who both passed away last year. As of now, it remains to be seen when Indian 2 will head back to production as Kamal Haasan is expected to begin shooting a film with Malayalam director Mahesh Narayanan of Malik fame, while also announcing a venture with blockbuster Tamil filmmaker Pa. Ranjith. Likewise, director Shankar too is hard at work with his Tamil-Telugu bilingual, the tentatively titled RC 15, starring Ram Charan in the lead role. Post the completion of RC 15, he will be joining hands with Bollywood star Ranveer Singh for the Hindi remake of the 2005 blockbuster Tamil film, Anniyan, being produced by Pen Studios.
