Dhanush is one of the leading actors who is well known across India. One of his blockbuster hit films that was celebrated by many and became a huge success was Velaiilla Pattathari. The film was released in 2014 and became a huge commercial success and it was also produced under his banner Wunderbar Films. A case was filed by the Tamil Nadu People's Forum for Tobacco Control filed a cast against actor Dhanush and producer Aishwarya Rajinikanth over the film for promoting cigarettes and tobacco products . The case was the first filed in Saidapet Court and was later moved to the Madras High Court. After hearing the case, now, the judge has dismissed the case filed against the film.

Reports have stated that a case was filed under the law that prohibits directors and indirect advertisement of cigarettes and other tobacco products over a poster from Velaiilla Pattathari that shows the actor smoking. Counsel from actor Dhanush's side argued that the film was certified by CBFC and that no opportunity was given to them to explain before filing the complaint and so it must be quashed. Now, the Madras High Court has dismissed the case that's been in court for a long time.

Velaiilla Pattathari has an ensemble cast that includes Dhanush, Amala Paul, Vivek, Sammuthirakani, Saranya Ponvanan and others in important roles. The film became a huge hit and was directed by Velraj. Dhanush also has an exacting line of film including the upcoming Captain Miller. The next film in which he is playing the lead is also directed by the actor and is tentatively titled D50. his next project was announced as a sequel to Raanjhanaa's titled Tere Ishq Mein. It is speculated that the actor will then star in Neslon’s next directorial, which will be announced soon.
