It's official - Dhanush's landmark 50th film will be produced by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures, the prestigious production banner announced on Wednesday, January 18. Sharing an intriguing announcement poster giving audiences a glimpse of an industrial backdrop, no other details about the upcoming project have been revealed, with the blockbuster production house informing fans that there will be more updates soon. The tentatively titled D50 is Sun Pictures' second film with Dhanush after Thiruchitrambalam in 2022, which went on to become a huge success with audiences across all ages and a box office blockbuster.

Sun Pictures producing D50 is no doubt a big achievement for Dhanush and fans expect the film to be an intense social drama and a huge venture in terms of scale and details regarding the rest of the cast and crew are still to be made known. Based on the announcement poster, one can assume the film will be tonally completely different in comparison to Thiruchitrambalam, which was a light-hearted romantic and family entertainer. For a while now, speculations have been rife that Dhanush will be directing a film and it remains to be seen if D50 is indeed going to be his next big directorial. Apart from D50 with Sun Pictures, Dhanush has several big films in his lineup among which include the period drama Vaathi releasing in theatres worldwide on February 17, which is also coming out in Telugu under the title Sir. The two-time National Award-winning actor is currently filming the highly-anticipated pre-Independence action-adventure drama Captain Miller being directed by Rocky and Saani Kaayidham fame Arun Matheswaran under Sathya Jyothi Films banner. Dhanush will also begin filming a Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi trilingual film with acclaimed filmmaker Sekhar Kammula, which will be produced by Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP banner (a unit of Asian Cinema Group) in association with Amigos Creations. There's also Aayirathil Oruvan 2, the sequel to the 2010 film Aayirathil Oruvan, and will mark Dhanush's reunion with Selvaraghavan after their Naane Varuvean released last year.
