After a lot of speculation over whether the tour would happen or not, it was just recently confirmed that Team India's tour Down Under, would go ahead! However, there was still some confusion over the venues and travel details but all that has been hammered out now and one of Cricket World's greatest rivalries is all set to resume on the field, soon! The Indian Premier League (IPL) is racing towards a sizzling finish with almost 7 team vying for the 4 places in the Playoffs. While the entire cricket world has been engrossed with this spectacle, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the names of the players in the squads for the different formats for India's tour of Australia, just yesterday! Now, Cricket Australia (CA) has released the complete tour schedule of this upcoming series!
The Indian players, coaches and support staff would be travelling directly to Australia from the UAE, where the IPL is being played. The IPL final is expected to take place on November 10th, following which the squad will leave for Australia, from there. This upcoming tour will see India and Australia going head-to-head in 3 ODIs, 3 T20s and 4 Tests! The tour will commence with the first of the ODIs in Sydney on November 27th, followed by the second ODI at the same venue on November 29th, with the last & final ODI being played at Canberra, on December 2nd. All three matches would be day-night affairs. The Twenty20 series would begin on December 4th in Canberra, before moving back to Sydney for the remaining two matches, one each on December 6th & 8th! With the limited overs part of the series out of the way, the two teams will head on to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test Series!
India and Australia will meet in their first ever day-night Test at Adelaide Oval on December 17th, to kickstart the Test series. Then next Test will be the Boxing Day test on December 26th, which will be hosted at Melbourne. The 100,000 capacity MCG is expecting to curb the number of spectators and limit them to just 25,000, in view of the ongoing COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic. The 3rd Test will be played in the New Year on January 7th, at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). India's tour of Australia will conclude with the fourth Test, which will begin on January 15th, at Brisbane's Gabba! The Indian contingent is expected to reach Australia on November 12th and are then expected to go into quarantine, as per the local norms. However, all the matches on this schedule remain subject to any relevant government restrictions, at that given time. The BCCI and CA have gone to great lengths to get this tour on track and it sure is shaping up to be a blockbuster! Stay tuned for updates...
