The ongoing Tamil Film Producers Council strike against Digital Service Providers has left a big dent in the Tamil film industry with many contemplating the release schedule of their films.

With the plans for the summer releases already being a subject of debate, the focus is also beginning to shift slowly towards how the strike could affect the release plans of upcoming big budget films namely Vijay’s Thalapathy 62, Ajith’s Viswasam and Suriya’s NGK

As known to all, production is being carried swiftly forward in Thalapathy 62 and NGK with filming yet to kick off on Viswasam. That said, there are now reports these films could get pushed away from their Diwali release plans owing to the ongoing strike, which in turn has now opened a debate on the possibility for 'Superstar' Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated sci-fi action thriller 2.0 taking up the elusive slot.

Although there is no release date for 2.0 yet, there has been a chatter for a while that the makers were looking to get it to theatres in August. However, the current dilemma between the TFPC and DSPs could not only alter the production as well as release schedule of Thalapathy 62, Viswasam and NGK, but also pave the way for Rajinikanth’s magnum opus to perfect the post-production including all the VFX and CG work at a comfortable rate of speed.

We will now just have to wait for the outcome of this strike to know how the makers of each of these films carry forward with their plans.

Produced under the Lyca Productions at an estimated budget of Rs. 400 crores, 2.0 has been directed by Shankar with A. R. Rahman scoring the music and Akshay Kumar as antagonist and Amy Jackson as the female lead.
