A box office meeting that fans of both Ajith and Vijay have been waiting for nearly a decade is all set to happen once again as each of the Tamil superstars' upcoming films, Thunivu and Varisu, will open in cinemas worldwide on January 11 ahead of the Pongal festivities. With the release date officially announced and the trade deals for the theatrical outing nearly finalized, fans have already begun preparations to witness their idols on the big screen and the excitement is at an unprecedented high once again as the last time both Vijay and Ajith's films squared off at the box office was back in 2014 when their Jilla and Veeram turned out to be huge successes.

As expectations for both films are already gigantic, popular Tamil film producer-distributor Dhananjayan Govind on Wednesday evening, January 4, dropped a hint about a big announcement coming out shortly after Ajith's Thunivu release date was made official. He first tweeted out and said, "I am expecting another big announcement soon. 💪🔥💥", and followed it up by saying, "Tamil Cinema is heading for an exciting time. The Game is on: Is it going to be: T Vs T ?💪🔥👌" Dhananjayan's "T v T" left many fans wondering what he was referring to which he later clarified after Vijay's Varisu too was confirmed officially to be releasing on the same date at the stroke of midnight. The popular producer wrote on Twitter, " 'Tit for Tat' is what I mentioned as T Vs T. You change the date, I change the date. Hope you got it now. Now it's settled. 11th January is the D day for the big clash. Looking forward to both films doing rocking business for Tamil Cinema to create new records for opening day🔥" Check out his tweets below:

Dhananjayan Govind has pretty much echoed the emotions of both 'Thalapathy' Vijay and Ajith Kumar’s fans everywhere, who have been expressing their enthusiasm over the big screen meeting of the two Tamil cinema giants' films finally coming out together on the same date after a really long time. Thunivu will see Ajith sharing screen space with Manju Warrier and is his third venture with director H. Vinoth and producer Boney Kapoor after their Nerkonda Paarvai (2019) and Valimai (2022), with the film billed to be his biggest release to date. Likewise, Vijay's Varisu directed by Vamshi Paidipally of Thozha and Maharshi fame and bankrolled by blockbuster Telugu films producer Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Creations banner also has youth sensation Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead and is a return to the family entertainment genre for the Tamil cinema superstar after a while since he's been seen predominantly in action blockbusters over the years.
