Ashwin Kakumanu started his career with a Gautham Menon film Nadunisi Naaygal and then went on to play pivotal roles in movies like Mankatha with Ajith Kumar, 7am Arivu with Suriya and even played the second lead character in Vijay Sethupathi’s Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara. He is currently working in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan, Idhu Vedhalam Sollum Kathai and Thollaikatchi. He initially auditioned for a role in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. The director Gautham Menon was close to giving him the role but he unfortunately didn’t make the cut. But Ashwin was noticed by the assistant directors of the film and recommended him for the role as Arjun, the boyfriend of Sameera Reddy's character in Nadunisi Naaygal. Ashwin Kakumanu was later signed to portray a role in Venkat Prabhu's Mankatha which featured an ensemble cast including Ajith Kumar, Vaibhav Reddy and Arjun after Prabhu was impressed with a short film which Ashwin had directed and acted. Ashwin appeared as a local Dharavi police officer, replacing Ganesh Venkatraman who had pulled out of the film. Mankatha released to critical and commercial acclaim in August 2011, with Ashwin gaining recognition for his portrayal.
That film not only gave him a big break but also helped him get close to Thala Ajith Kumar. As we know Ajith is fond and passionate with aeromodelling. He very recently came up with an initiative to use drones to disinfect corona. The initiative went on to become a huge success which was followed in other parts of Tamil Nadu later. Now Ashwin Kakumanu has shared a video that he has shot and edited. It is not some random shortfilm but it is a video of Ajith Kumar testing one of his aeromodelling drones in the run way. You can see the excitement on Ajith Kumar’s face. This video must have been shot a long time ago. Ashwin has even shared some nice words about Ajith on his Instagram space along with the video he shot and edited - “Learning to Fly. Many years ago, I had the opportunity of joining Ajith sir and Arvind sir (DoP of Dheena )on their aeromodelling sessions. This little video is a glimpse into that session. Interesting how commercial drones have evolved over the years. #AjithKumar #aeromodelling #Drone.”
