Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced ahead of the live broadcast of the sixth Google for India event that he had an "extremely fruitful" conversation with Sundar Pichai, the Chief Executive Officer of Alphabet and Google on "leveraging the power of technology to transform the lives of India's farmers and youth".

Taking to his Twitter page, PM Modi in a series of tweets said, "This morning, had an extremely fruitful interaction with @sundarpichai. We spoke on a wide range of subjects, particularly leveraging the power of technology to transform the lives of India’s farmers, youngsters and entrepreneurs.". He also said, "During our interaction, @sundarpichai and I spoke about the new work culture that is emerging in the times of COVID-19. We discussed the challenges the global pandemic has brought to areas such as sports. We also talked about the importance of data security and cyber safety." He then concluded saying, "I was delighted to know more about the efforts of @Google in several sectors, be it in education, learning, @_DigitalIndia, furthering digital payments and more. @sundarpichai"

The government has been forced to adopt technology to secure and defend the economy in view of the coronavirus pandemic which has dismantled traditional work and learning culture, business systems and supply chains, with financial experts viewing today's conversation to hold extreme significance.

Indian economy is expected to contract during the ongoing fiscal year by 4.5 percent, as per estimates by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). It is to be noted that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank too have provided similar estimates for the country.

Post the interaction with PM Modi, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that Google will help India by funding $ 10 billion (Rs 75,000 crores) to speed up the nation's economy. The 48-year-old added saying, "we are proud to support" Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for digital India. Sundar Pichai tweeted, "Today at #GoogleForIndia we announced a new $10B digitization fund to help accelerate India's digital economy. We're proud to support PM @narendramodi's vision for Digital India - many thanks to Minister @rsprasad & Minister @DrRPNishank for joining us,".
