In a shocking tragedy, two former beauty pageant winners, Miss Kerala 2019 - Ansi Kabeer, 25, and runner-up Dr Anjana Shajan, 26, - were killed in a car accident in Vyttila near Kochi on Monday. According to the police, one among the two men who was driving their Ford Figo car, has been admitted to hospital after suffering critical injuries. The incident had taken place on a highway in the early hours when the car driver was speeding and crashed into a tree. Reports state that the driver lost control of the vehicle in an attempt to avoid a collision with a scooter, with the rider getting hit and suffering minor injuries. Both Ansi Kabeer and Dr Anjana Shajan, who were rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment, succumbed to their injuries.

Visuals from the crash scene show the car and its hatchback completely destroyed and in a mangled state. Police have stated that they were not able to retrieve the documents from the car's glove compartment considering the damage was extensive, while adding that a case of rash driving has been filed. Upon being queried whether the drivers were wearing seatbelts, a police officer said that a definitive answer can be given only upon further investigation by forensic scientists.

The news of Ansi Kabeer and Dr Anjana Shajan's death has come as a massive shock to fans, who have been paying their tributes on social media. It is to be noted that Ansi's last Instagram post captioned: "It's time to go," has only added to the sorrow. Leading Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan paid his respects to duo on Facebook and wrote, "I had the great privilege of working with both these young and vibrant girls. Anjana did a small role in Salute. And Ansi did a TV commercial with me. I pray for their families and friends to get through these trying times. 😞😞"

Hailing from Alamcode in Thiruvananthapuram, Ansi Kabeer won the Miss Kerala pageant in 2019 and was also crowned the 2021 Miss South India. On the other hand, Dr Anjana Shajan from Thrissur was pursuing a career in modelling.
