Vaathi was the first bilingual film by the talented actor Dhanush and it was released in Telugu as Sir. The film was directed by Venky Atluri, who has previously done Telugu language films like Thooli Prema and Rang De. Dhanush who is known for playing the role of a school student has become a teacher in the film with Samyuktha, Samuthirakani, Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Thotapalli Madhu, Narra Srinivas, Pammi Sai, Hyper Aadhi and others in supporting roles.
The production house that bankrolled the film Sithara Entertainment has released the official box office collections of the film. They have revealed that Vaathi has grossed the mark of ₹100 crores worldwide. It was initially released on 17th February and has grossed the milestone in just three weeks. The producer shared the massive announcement with a new poster, with the caption "Love for Vaathi Sir is Unstoppable.” and thanked everyone for their "phenomenal support". The previous film of Dhanush that cross the milestone was Thiruchitrambalam.

The film set in the 90s revolves around the issues surrounding government schools. Vaathi/Sir has music composed by GV Prakash Kumar. The successful combo of Dhanush and GV Prakash has continued in the film as songs became chart-toppers. A recent video of Dhanush singing the Reprise version of Vaa Vaathi also became an instant trending number just hours after launch. The film was produced by Naga Vamshi who said in the initial week of release that the film has been running successfully in theatres in all centres. He also predicted that the film will see good numbers and could cross the previous films that he produced. The production house previously announced the film grossed ₹51 crores worldwide on 20th February. Fans are exciting for the movie to smash more records and for the upcoming projects of Dhanush.
