A film that was scheduled to hit screens on April 9 earlier this year, 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Master's release has since been put on hold in view of the coronavirus pandemic crisis. With containment efforts for the COVID-19 outbreak still being adopted by the government, there has been much speculation as to when the mass action thriller will be released. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Xavier Britto's XB Film Creators banner, speculations and reports sprung up on Friday evening stating the Master team was considering skipping a theatrical release and instead bring it out on OTT as similar to Suriya's Soorarai Pottru.

Reports started circulating stating that the Master team was planning to release the film directly on the Netflix streaming service as a Pongal treat in January 2021. With many confused fans taking to social media, it has now been learnt that the makers of Master have not opted for any such plans and are focused on making it a direct theatrical release first. Furthermore, it is now being stated that the film will be coming out on Amazon Prime Video and not on Netflix as being speculated, only after its theatrical release. It is to be noted that both producer Xavier Britto and director Lokesh Kanagaraj revealed sometime back that Vijay's Master will only come out in theatres, while adding that it is the only way the film ought to be watched.

Expectations for Master are massive, especially after the release of the Master teaser a couple of weeks back. The Master teaser showed plenty of action-packed visuals featuring both Vijay and the film's antagonist 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi. With the teaser recently being declared as the most-liked teaser in India, it is not far behind from becoming the most-viewed Tamil film teaser/trailer standing as it currently stands at the fourth spot, with Vijay's Bigil trailer, followed by the Mersal teaser and the Sarkar teaser holding the top three positions.

The response to the Master teaser alone shows how much excitement surrounds the film, which also includes Malavika Mohanan as the female lead, followed by Andrea Jeremiah, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, Gouri Kishan, Master Mahendran, KPY Dheena, Ramya Subramanian, Azhagam Perumal among others forming the supporting cast. All sights are now set on the Master trailer, which can be expected to carry out the release plan announcement when it is unveiled officially.
