A film that was initially slated to hit screens on April 9 earlier this year as a grand summer treat, 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Master's release has been a subject of debate for a while now among fans and those in the industry. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Xavier Britto's XB Film Creators in association with Lalit Kumar's 7 Screen Studios, Master's release had been pushed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. With the government still carrying off the containment measures against the COVID-19 outbreak, speculations and reports began doing the rounds on social media once again stating that Vijay's Master will be coming out directly on the OTT platform as a Pongal treat in January 2021, while skipping its theatrical release.

With many fans confused and taking to social media regarding the fate of Master's release in theatres or on OTT, XB Film Creators has now released an official statement via a press release. XB Film Creators' statement is as follows: "As we continue to battle the pandemic, we hope you are all safe and doing fine. We understand and can feel the amount of excitement among the audience to celebrate our #Master in theatres. We await the Big Day to come, as much as you do. With lot of rumours surfacing in the past few days, we would like to clarify our stand on it. Though we have an offer from a reputed OTT service provider, we prefer to the theatrical release, which is the need of the hour for the industry to survive the on-going crisis. We also request the theatre owners to stand with us and provide their support for reviving the Tamil Film Industry. We hope to reach out to you soon, with the good news. Stay safe."

The hype surrounding Master has not dimmed down as the response to the film's songs released in March, including the stellar feedback from fans for the action-packed teaser unveiled this Diwali are testimony enough. The film's songs composed by Anirudh Ravichander have turned out to be sensational hits and are still reigning at the top of the charts. The Master teaser too is basking in massive glory as it is currently the most-liked teaser in India. The 1 minute and 30 seconds Master teaser has been the talk of the town since it dropped on the Sun TV YouTube channel on Diwali day (November 14), with more than 41 million views recorded to date. The Master teaser is also not far behind from soon becoming the most-viewed Tamil film teaser/trailer as it is in the fourth spot, with Vijay's Bigil trailer, followed by the Mersal teaser and the Sarkar teaser holding the top three positions.

Touted to be an mass masala action thriller, Master will see Vijay facing off 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi, who is the antagonist. The film’s teaser gave both Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi’s fans plenty to cheer about, with their showdown being the biggest highlight. Master also includes Malavika Mohanan as the female lead, followed by Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, Andrea Jeremiah, Gouri Kishan, Master Mahendran, KPY Dheena, Ramya Subramanian, Azhagam Perumal among others forming the supporting cast.
