The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) a few days back announced a new set of Unlock 5 phase relaxations which included the reopening of theatres and cinema halls across the country with a 50% occupancy capacity from October 15, excluding the ones that fall under the areas in the containment zones. Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar announced the standard operating procedures (SOPs) all theatres and cinema halls around the country should follow in order to safely continue their operations amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Although the Centre has announced the relaxations, the Tamil Nadu government is yet to give a nod for the reopening of theatres in the state. With theatres and cinema halls yet to reopen in TN, a number of Tamil films have come out on various OTT platforms during the lockdown period over the course of the last seven months. Two big notable films were last released on OTT on October 2 - the Aishwarya Rajesh and Vijay Sethupathi starrer Ka Pae Ranasingam and Nishabdham starring Anushka Shetty and Madhavan. Among them, Ka Pae Ranasingam has now achieved the distinction of becoming the first Tamil film to be releasing on October 16 in theatres in other states across India, with KJR Studios making the announcement. They tweeted, "“In theatres near you”, How long did we wait to say this! This is an emotional moment to all of us as we are back after a long break to give you the theatrical experience. Watch #KaPaeRanasingam in cinemas from OCT 16! #RanasingamInTheatres @VijaySethuOffl @aishu_dil". Whether the film will be released in theatres in Tamil Nadu once the restrictions are lifted, remains to be seen and is a waiting game at this point.

Released on the newly-launched Zee Plex OTT platform on a pay-per-view basis, viewers have been raving about Ka Pae Ranasingam since it came out last week. The social drama directed by debutant P. Virumandi has been produced by Kotapadi J Rajesh under his KJR Studios banner. Apart from the two lead stars, the film also includes G. V. Prakash Kumar's sister Bhavani Sre making her acting debut as Vijay Sethupathi's sister, with Rangaraj Pandey cast as a District Collector and featuring music composed by Ghibran.
