Director Santhosh P. Jayakumar's Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kutthu starring Gautham Karthik, Yashika Aannand, Vaibhavi Shandilya, Chandrika Ravi and Shah Ra turned out to be a box office success upon its release in 2018. Since then, a sequel to IAMK was announced under the title Irandam Kuththu, which this time has Santhosh P. Jayakumar turning hero alongside Karishma Kaul, Akrithi Singh, Meenal Sahu, Daniel Annie Pope, Rajendiran, Ravi Maria, Chaams, TSK, Singam Puli, Swaminathan, Shalu Shamu in supporting roles.

Irandaam Kuththu recently had its first look poster and teaser released, which received a strong yet mixed response from various sections of the society. The film's teaser has already crossed more than 1.5 million views on YouTube and has quickly become a widely discussed film in recent times. Recently, six-time National Award-winning director Bharathiraja lashed out against the film's poster including the promotional material and called for the state government and the censor board to take a stern decision against the film. Having said that, a police complaint was filed by the Panangattu Padai party in the Chennai Police Commissioner's Office on Friday in which they referred the guidelines of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on how a film must be made and cited that Irandaam Kuththu had gone past those barriers. The complainant also requested for a probe to be conducted including an immediate ban of the film.

In their complaint, the Panangattu Padai party stated that Irandaam Kuththu had plenty of double meaning references and also showed vulgarity excessively. They demanded that the director, producer, actors and actresses of the film including Arya who released the teaser should be subjected to legal action and arrested in order to protect the youth and the culture of the state. They further stated that the film has been made in a deplorable and derogatory manner keeping in mind only the business aspects. They added that a legal punishment should be carried out on filmmakers, actors and actresses who come out with such films that focus on double meaning dialogues and obscene visuals.
