The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a great deal of pain and loss as the deadly infection has taken the lives of thousands around the country. As the Centre and the State governments have enforced a strict lockdown in order to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, people from all walks of life have been affected, including several notable Tamil film fraternity celebrities over the past year. In that light, popular Tamil film director Rathna Kumar informed on social media that 14 members from his family, including his 83-year-old grandmother and 15-month-old baby, tested positive for COVID-19. 

Taking to Twitter, Rathna Kumar told that his entire family had endured a great deal of stress after testing COVID-19 positive and suffered for twenty days. Having shot to the limelight after his directorial debut, Meyaadha Maan, and the thriller Aadai, the new-gen director also revealed that his father, grandmother, mother-in-law and sister-in-law had to be admitted to hospital after the symptoms turned severe, but have since made a recovery, while adding that their household has returned to its normal state. Rathna Kumar, who hit the bullseye in Meyaadha Maan, a commercial and critical success, starring Vaibhav, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Indhuja Ravichandran and Vivek Prasanna, went on to carry forward his momentum a notch higher with Aadai starring Amala Paul in the lead role. Post the success of his two films, Rathna Kumar, a close friend of director Lokesh Kanagaraj, came on board the 'Thalapathy' Vijay' and 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi starrer, Master, as an additional screenwriter and for the dialogues, with the mass masala action entertainer turning out to be a massive box office blockbuster.
