Blockbuster Tamil film production and distribution banner Sun Pictures announced on Thursday that a major update on their upcoming film will be made on June 17 at 11 a.m. Without revealing much, the prestigious production house shared a poster that had the painting of one big red star, which has left fans wondering if Friday’s update could be related to 'Superstar' Rajinikanth's next film, Thalaivar 169, to be directed by Nelson Dilipkumar with music by 'Rockstar' Anirudh Ravichander. It is to be noted that the upcoming Rajinikanth film was formally announced back in February after Sun Pictures released a special video featuring the iconic actor alongside Nelson and Anirudh. With production reported to finally kick off in July, fans are now waiting for that elusive Thalaivar 169 announcement, which many expect will arrive tomorrow morning. Expectations for Thalaivar 169 have been massive right from the moment the project was announced as the project is Rajinikanth's next with Sun Pictures after last year's Annaatthe. Likewise, the film is also Nelson's second consecutive collaboration with the reputed production banner after Beast starring 'Thalapathy' Vijay earlier this year, which went on to become a box office money-spinner despite mixed reviews. For a while, there were rumors spreading on social media that Thalaivar 169 was dropped, which Nelson and Rajinikanth refuted in their own way as the latter added the film's tentative title hashtag on his social media page, while the veteran actor changed his Twitter header with a screengrab from the film's announcement video.
Rajinikanth, Nelson, and Anirudh will be looking to come out all guns blazing with Thalaivar 169, which will be aiming for a grand theatrical release in 2023. Like all other Sun Pictures ventures, a formal pooja for the film is expected to be held in the days ahead and visuals from the ceremony too will be released for fans to witness Rajinikanth taking part in the proceedings alongside the entire cast and crew.
