Ponniyin Selvan: 2 is an anticipated film that is set to be released on April 28. The first part of the film was released last year in October and was one of the highest-grosser in box-office collection. It is based on the five-part book written by Kalki. It is called the Magnum Opus of Mani Ratnam and has a huge star cast. The stars who have acted in the two-part films including Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sobhita Dhulipala, are on tour across India for promotions in major cities. The film also has the Oscar Award winner A.R. Rahman as the music composer.

As Ponniyin Selvan: 2 is set to be released in less than a week. The makers have revealed an exciting new sneak peek from the movies. The 2-minute long glimpse video has narration by 'Ulaga Naayagan' Kamal Haasan and explains the lineup of events that happened in Ponniyin Selvan: 1. It begins with “The year is 968 AD, The Chola Empire has faced much political unrest, conspiracies and impending war. Rashtrakuta king is gathering a huge army to attack Thanjavur. To take revenge for the death of Veera Pandyan, the Pandyan assailants have infiltrated the Chola kingdom. Gandarathidar’s son Madhuranthakan was determined to claim the throne, despite his father's wish and mother’s orders.” the narration goes on to explain that “the Chola prison ship carrying Arulmozhi Varman sank. It came as a shock to people and royals of the kingdom as the news was spread that Arulmozhi Varman has died." The video ends with the beginning of the story of the second part as the narration goes by saying "Adhitha Karikalan though that Nandini was behind the plot that killed Arulmozhi Varman, He was enraged and let his army to Thanjavur."
