'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan fans are in for a big treat ahead in June as the neo-noir action crime thriller film, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, will be re-released in theatres. The cult classic turned out to be a critical and box office success back during the time of its release in 2006 and fans will surely be looking to revisit the action once again. Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon and produced under Manickam Narayanan's Seventh Channel Communications banner, a special poster for Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu states that the film will be re-released in a remastered version by YMR Creations in theatres next month.

Gautham Menon's Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu showed Kamal Haasan playing the role of a top cop investigating a string of deaths and tracking down two serial killers from Madurai in Tamil Nadu to New York City in the U.S. The film also starring Jyotika, Kamalinee Mukherjee, Prakash Raj, Daniel Balaji, and Salim Baig, among others to chart-topping hits songs and a rocking background score by Harris Jayaraj continues to be highly-revered among Tamil cinema fans. The news of Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu's re-release will no doubt come as a big delight to many who will be looking forward to catching in action on the big screen once again in the new enhanced version, with the wait now on for the re-release date.

Last year, Kamal Haasan surprised fans during the audio launch of Silambarasan TR's Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu by giving his first confirmation about a script being developed for the Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu sequel. The actor said, "Gautham Menon had shared an idea for Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu 2 a couple of years back. I had asked him to finish the complete script and come back to me. We both want the story to be done." Gautham Menon, who too shared the stage with Kamal Haasan, said, "Your favorite writer Jeyamohan sir is writing the script, sir. It will reach you soon." Later, during an exclusive interview with Galatta, writer Jeyamohan shared his plans for the sequel and said, "We have discussed a one-line and need to develop it further. In the first film, Kamal Haasan played the role of a police officer who was in service. Now, if we make this film, he will be retired. So, it comes down to why a retired officer is once again being called back to duty. The story will start from that point and go forward."
