'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan's fans have a big reason to cheer as the iconic actor's blockbuster 2006 film, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, will be re-releasing in cinemas on June 23. The film has been announced to be coming out in a remastered version and will be released by YMR Creations through the KM Sundaram Pictures banner. Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu produced by Manickam Narayanan under the Seventh Channel Communications banner went on to become a massive critical and box office success, and Kamal Haasan will no doubt be looking forward to witnessing him in action as DCP Raghavan once again.

Kamal Haasan played the role of a top police officer in Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, whose investigation of a string of deaths from Madurai in Tamil Nadu takes him to New York City in the U. S., with the neo-noir action crime thriller since then garnering the status of a cult classic. The film's re-release plans were revealed in May leaving 'Ulaganayagan' fans excited and it will give them a chance to catch the actor on the big screen after last year's blockbuster, Vikram, and ahead of the highly-anticipated Indian 2, which is expected to come out either towards the end of the year or in early 2024.

Kamal Haasan's Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu also stars Jyotika, Kamalinee Mukherjee, Prakash Raj, Daniel Balaji, and Salim Baig, among others, and also includes chart-topping songs composed by hit music director Harris Jayaraj, which continue to enjoy a big fan following to this date. It is to be noted that Kamal Haasan surprised everyone last year at the audio launch of Silambarasan TR's Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu by confirming that a script is indeed in development for the Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu sequel, with Gautham Menon revealing that acclaimed writer Jeyamohan is working on it. Likewise, during an exclusive interview with Galatta, Jeyamohan opened up on his plans for Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu 2 and said, "We've discussed a one-line and need to develop it further. Kamal Haasan played the role of a police officer who was in service in the first film. Now, if we make this film, he will be retired. So, it comes down to why a retired officer is once again being called back to duty. The story will start from that point and go forward."
