Denis Villeneuve’s first installment of Dune which was released in October 2021 garnered a lot of attention and opened to critical acclaim. The movie grossed over $401 million at the worldwide box office and was nominated for 10 Oscars, including Best Picture, and ended up winning the Academy Awards for Best Score, Sound, Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, and Visual Effects. Given this tremendous feat and an all-out extraordinary work put in by the team, all of Villeneuve’s Oscar-winning crafts team are returning for the second installment of the film.

Now, the highly-anticipated sequel has officially taken another major step forward. Denis is now back on the planet of Arrakis as filming for the second part of Dune is currently underway. The film has already been scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 17 November 2023.

The official synopsis of Dune: Part 2 from Warner Bros. and Legendary reads - “This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

“The thing that helps us right now is that it’s the first time I’ve revisited a universe,” Villeneuve said earlier this year about returning for the Dune sequel. “So I’m working with the same crew, everybody knows what to do, we know what it will look like. The movie will be more challenging, but we know where we are stepping. And the screenplay is written. So I feel confident. Frankly, the only big unknown for me right now is the pandemic.”

Many members of Dune's ensemble cast will also return for Part Two, including Timothee Chalamet as the primary protagonist Paul Atreides alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Charlotte Rampling. Apart from this group of ace actors, excitement has only been growing with each addition to the sequel's all-star cast including Black Widow's Florence Pugh, Elvis star Austin Butler, No Time to Die's Lea Seydoux, and Christopher Walken.
