Chiyaan Vikram's Cobra is set for its grand theatrical release this Wednesday, August 31 marking the festive occasion of Vinayakar Chaturthi. The first shows will begin in the city at 5 AM, early in the morning and several leading theatres have charted 5 AM shows and it looks like the film is set to take a grand opening at the box office. The film will have a wide release in Tamil Nadu through the banner of Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies. With the film's release around the corner, the makers officially revealed the censor and runtime details of the film recently and here is what you need to know.

Cobra has passed the censor test and has been given a U/A certificate by the CBFC and it is obviously for the action episodes. The final theatrical version of Cobra has been locked with a runtime of 3 hours 3 minutes and 3 seconds, 3:3:3 (183 minutes). This development has come as a surprise for many on social media as it has been a very long time since we had a 3-hour long film in Tamil cinema and it is indeed going to be exciting to see how the film engages the audience throughout its runtime. Director Ajay Gnanamuthu and his team look to be confident in their product and that is probably why they have gone ahead with a longer duration.

In recent times, Rajamouli's RRR was a film that had a duration of more than 3 hours (3 hours 7 minutes), yet it managed to keep the audiences engrossed. As far as the censor cuts are concerned, two liplock shots have been removed from the film and the cuss words have been muted. Cobra is Vikram's first theatrical release after the Covid 19 scene and the fans have pinned high hopes on the film. Produced by Seven Screen Studio, the film features Srinidhi Shetty of KGF fame as the female lead and has music composed by A.R.Rahman.
