The hard hitting Bollywood courtroom drama Pink, which starred Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee in pivotal roles, went on to become a blockbuster success. This movie, which spoke about abuse against women, was remade in Tamil as Nerkonda Paarvai, with Thala Ajith and Shraddha Srinath playing the lead roles. It was then announced that this movie is also being remade in Telugu with Power Star Pawan Kalyan reprising Amitabh Bachchan's role as a lawyer, with Nivetha Thomas and Anjali playing the lady leads. This movie, which marks the comeback of Pawan Kalyan to acting, has been titled Vakeel Saab. Now Shruti Haasan has confirmed during a recent live interview with a media that she has been roped in to play an important role in Vakeel Saab. She however refused to state her role in the film but fans are pretty sure that she is playing Pawan Kalyan’s pair, the role that Vidya Balan played in Nerkonda Paarvai. This would be Shruti Haasan's third association with Pawan Kalyan after Gabbar Singh and Katamarayudu.

Vakeel Saab would be a comeback of sorts for talented Shruti Haasan in Tollywood industry who hasn’t had a release in the last 3 years. Her last Hindi film was Behen Hogi Teri which released in 2017. Even in Tamil and Telugu, she hasn’t had a release in the recent times. Apart from Vakeel Saab, Shruti Haasan has a film in Tamil with Vijay Sethupathi titled Laabam and she will also be seen in Ravi Teja’s Telugu film Krack and a Hindi film Yaara. The success of these four films would be very crucial for Shruti Haasan’s career in Bollywood, Tollywood and Kollywood.  Jointly bankrolled by Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations & Boney Kapoor's Bayview Projects LLP banners, Vakeel Saab was earlier planned for Summer 2020 release but all plans got changed due to lockdown. SS Thaman has scored the music for Vakeel Saab and the team have already released one song Maguva Maguva from the film which got rave reviews. Pawan Kalyan has a couple of other projects in the pipeline, one with director Krish and another one with Harish Shankar.
