Prem Kumar and Meghana Gaonkar starrer Charminar is the first superhit Kannada film of 2013. Racing towards 75-day landmark, the film has become the highest commercial grosser of the year. Charminar was released on February 9 with decent hype. The film initially drew the attention of Prem Kumar and director R Chandru's fans to the theatres. But what happened in the following weeks is the history! The film, which was made with a decent budget, went on to recover its production cost in less than 10 days. The film was received with positive reviews from both critics and audience. Due to which the makers of the film were forced to increase the number of screens in the next few weeks. The brilliant performance of Prem Kumar and his chemistry with Meghana Gaonkar was well-received by the audience. According to the production house sources, Charminar was made with the meagre budget of Rs 3.25 (including publicity cost) crore. As the film is the maiden production venture of Chandru, the director kept strong hold on the financial aspect. Sources add that R Chandru has garnered at least a profit of Rs 4 crore till date from the film.
