Match 19 of this year's Indian Premier League saw Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) taking on the Delhi Capitals (DC) lead by Shreyas Iyer! Kohli won the toss but put in DC to bat! Earlier today, it was announced that DC's Amit Mishra had been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to injury and that he would be returning home! Axar Patel came into the team as his replacement. DC started their innings very positively with 14 runs off the first over itself! However, birthday boy Washington Sundar, who bowled three overs in the Powerplay, kept his overs very tight and seemed to be getting some spin too. Even Yuzvendra Chahal wasn't spared as he went for 18 off the 5th over! Prithvi Shaw was the aggressor with Shikhar Dhawan providing apt foil! Mohammed Siraj, who was playing his first game of IPL 2020 struck in his very first over and removed the free-flowing Shaw for 42 off 23 balls, in the 7th over. Shreyas Iyer walked in and began with a boundary off his very first ball.
Dhawan was the next to go, falling to Isuru Udana and in came Rishabh Pant. After a quiet 11th over, Shreyas perished to a very good catch by Padikkal, on the boundary and it was Marcus Stoinis who strolled out. After going 5 overs without a boundary, Pant hit one off Chahal in the 13th over. The next over bowled by Moeen Ali unleashed something in Stoinis as he smashed a 6 and a 4 and got his innings going. He slammed 17 off the next over bowled by Saini and his next over was taken apart by Pant for 18 runs. Siraj came back to take out Pant in 19th over but only after he had hit a massive 6! Hetmeyer walked out with 10 balls to spare and had his share of fun with a 6! Stoinis finished on 53 not out, chalking his 2nd half-century of the tournament! RCB had been set a target of 197 to chase. Dew would have helped RCB in their chase but it just didn't seem to happen today! Finch and Padikkal opened for RCB and it seemed to be Finch's lucky day as he was dropped twice and an edge fell short of a fielder! However, he didn't seem to capitalise on any of this!
Ravichandran Ashwin was brought on to bowl in as early as the 3rd over and when he saw Finch backing up too much out of the crease, he stopped midway through his bowling and gave Finch a warning with a glare. Guess Ponting not being a fan of 'Mankading' made Ashwin stop from doing so! Ashwin was lucky though, as he got Padikkal holing out to Stoinis for just 4! Finch followed in the next over, falling to Axar Patel, who was very good in all his 4 overs today! AB de Villiers joined Kohli in the middle and just as RCB fans were hoping for a classic run chase by the two star batsmen, ABD got out to Anrich Nortje for 9! This time Dhawan didn't miss the catch. The spin twins Axar and Ashwin kept the RCB scoring down with very good spells before Axar Patel got Moeen Ali off the last ball of his spell in the 12th over. Over 13 was profitable for RCB as they got 16 runs but Rabada returned the very next over and got Kohli, who had been waiting for the late acceleration. Dube joined Washington Sundar who was promoted ahead of him. After hitting Rabada for a couple of 4s off his next over, Sundar also perished. Off the 18th over, Rabada picked out both Dube and Udana and finished with a very impressive 4-wicket haul. Then Nortje added to his tally by cleaning out Siraj. With all momentum gone after regular wickets, RCB ended up crashing to a 59-run defeat. Axar Patel was adjudged the Player of the match and DC became table toppers with 4 wins in 5 games!
