The 59th Filmfare Awards (South) that took place recently was held in a grand manner. Celebrities from South Indian film industries participated in the function and made it a memorable occasion.

Among the Kannada stars, Puneeth Rajkumar and Divya Spandana were awarded the Best Actor (male) and Best Actor (female) respectively.

Puneeth awarded the best actor, for his performance in the film Hudugaru (2011), which is a remake of Tamil Naadodigal. The original version is directed by Samuthirakani.

“This is for my team, especially for Srinagara Kitty and Yogi, my co-actors. I'd like to thank Samuthirakani for writing such a lovely script and director Madhesh for adapting it so well to Kannada audiences. It was a great team to work with, and coincidentally my first multi-starrer,” Puneeth said.

Divya Spandana who won the award for her performance in Sanju Weds Geetha said, “The film is very special to me because we battled financial hardships and extreme weather conditions. We had a quiet release and the film ended up being one of the blockbusters of 2011.”
