A film that has left everyone amazed with its scope alone, Rajinikanth’s 2.0 is one of the hottest films in preparatory mode up for a massive release.

Made at an estimated Rs. 400 crores budget, post-production works are being carried out now for 2.0 directed by Shankar under the Lyca Productions banner, which has Akshay Kumar playing the antagonist.

Starring Amy Jackson as the female lead and with music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, two songs from 2.0 had been released as single tracks to stellar reception from fans.

The biggest debate among fans for months now has been the release of 2.0, which has seen several release date shifts till now.

Announced to come out as a Diwali release last year, the film was postponed to January 25 earlier this year.

When the makers couldn’t get 2.0 out in theatres in January, Rajinikanth during a press interaction then stated the film would make it to screens in April.

That said, those plans too were shelved and the slot went to Rajinikanth’s another widely-anticipated film, Kaala.

Ever since the Kaala release date announcement, everybody’s focus has been on when the film will come out.

Meanwhile, there were reports sometime back claiming 2.0 would coming out this August.

Then again, those plans have come under question in the past few days with some reports stating the film was next being eyed for a Diwali release later this year.

It must be noted Diwali 2018 is already loaded with three big films - Vijay’s Thalapathy 62, Ajith’s Viswasam and Suriya’s NGK.

Having said that, those films announced to be coming out on the festive occasion later this year have been subjected to a doubt over the past few days owing to the Tamil Film Producers Council strike, which called for an indefinite halt to all shoots and post-production works starting today (16.03.2018).

In the midst of this, reports have sprung up stating the VFX company Tau Films had declared themselves to be bankrupt and Lyca Productions eventually realized them getting back their money which they had invested legally was not possible.

It is said Lyca Productions had then accepted Tau Films to take care of the 3D modeling of the film and then pursued for the VFX with several other companies in Chennai.

That being said, the results expected by director Shankar were not up to the mark from the studios in Chennai after which all footages were sent to a reputed studio in the US.

Now, there are reports that the makers are indeed eyeing a Diwali 2018 release, but it could take time since the post-production works require another additional eight to ten months to be completed.

If indeed 2.0 is planned for a Diwali 2018 release and doesn’t come out then, it will most likely arrive in early 2019 and the ideal plan would be for Pongal next year.

The upcoming days will be crucial with regards to every single development in the film and will give us a better picture on whether the makers' plans are progressing in accordance to what they have decided for the sequel to the 2010 blockbuster, Enthiran
