Vijay Antony will be making his directorial debut in the pan-Indian film, Pichaikkaran 2, releasing in theatres worldwide on May 19. The composer-turned-actor recently sat down with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, to talk about who the initial choice was to direct the upcoming film. Upon being asked how he operated as a director, Vijay Antony said, "I didn't have a plan. I'll have a plan only if I have some clarity. There was no plan and there was no clarity. If I have to do it, I'll get it done. I move with that belief. If we begin thinking a lot, it won't happen. I tend to make the wrong decision, but I try to make it right later. And, this isn't just on the film's sets, but in life too. There are only two things in life - right and wrong. Will everything you think is right turn out to be right and will everything you think is wrong end up being wrong? I won't think too much. If I need something and if I have to make a decision at one point, I'll go ahead. After making my decision, if it begins to go wrong, I'll try and focus on getting it right."

When queried about how he approached direction in Pichaikkaran 2, Vijay Antony stated, "Directing this film was accidental and was not my idea initially. I asked Sasi sir (Pichaikkaran director) and he said he was busy. I then tried considering a few others, but since nobody else was suitable, the decision to become the director was accidental. After I decided to try my hand at direction, I began to learn many new things. I tend to operate with common sense and it worked out well." He added, "Since I have sat on the editing for many films, I had that knowledge to my strength. I had the boldness to face anything on the editing table. And basically, I had some taste along with common sense about what's good and what's not, and I can make a judgment about these things. At least, if not there, I know that we can fix things during the post-production even without anyone else telling us that it needs to be done."
