'Thalapathy' Vijay's Varisu directed by Vamshi Paidipally under Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations banner is set to open in cinemas in grand style for Pongal in January 2023 and preparations are underway to ensure it gets as big a release in Tamil Nadu. With Lalit Kumar's 7 Screen Studio presenting the upcoming family entertainer in Tamil Nadu, there has been much debate of late regarding the film's Telugu version, Vaarasudu, in the Telugu states on the same date as the Tamil version after the Telugu Film Producers Council recently urged exhibitors to lay emphasis for straight Telugu films over dubbed releases during festivals like Sankranti and Dussehra.

With a lot of debate surrounding Varisu's Telugu version, Vaarasudu's release, the Tamil Film Producers Council President and producer at Thenandal Studios Limited Murali Ramasamy informed the press on Wednesday, November 23, that the film would not face any hurdles in its release in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana. During his interaction with the media, he said, "We have informed the Telugu film chamber to take this back and they have told us they will consider and see to it the film releases. This is being talked about because VIjay sir's Varisu is releasing. However, Chiranjeevi sir's Waltair Veerayya and Nandamuri Balakrishna sir's Veera Simha Reddy are also coming out for Sankranthi. This is being debated a lot for that reason and not because of Vijay's film. Everybody in cinema knows about this. At the same time, the regional language films will come out in the most number of theatres at all times, and only after that are dubbing films given a preference. This is applicable to films coming out in Tamil Nadu as well. So, this need not be made a big thing as it will be sorted out in a smooth manner and the film will be released in a proper manner in all places."
