On the professional front, Simbu is currently working on the highly-anticipated mass-masala political entertainer, Maanaadu, under Venkat Prabhu's direction being produced by Suresh Kamatchi's V House Productions. Considerable amount of filming had been wrapped up before the COVID-19 lockdown had been imposed, which led to an indefinite halt in the film's production. Featuring music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, the film is a multi-starrer and includes Kalyani Priyadarshan as the female lead, wit SJ Suryah, Karunakaran, Premgi Amaren, Manoj Bharathiraja, veteran directors S A Chandrasekhar and Bharathiraja, among others in major supporting roles. Production on Maanaadu can be expected to resume soon in the days ahead once the coronavirus pandemic crisis in the state takes a better turn.

Simbu is also attached to STR 45, which is speculated to be the remake of the smash hit Kannada film, Mufti, and will see him share screen space alongside Gautham Karthik. Director Narthan, who helmed the Kannada original in 2017, was announced to be making his Tamil cinema debut, and under the Studio Green production banner. A word on the production status of STR 45 too can be expected in the days ahead and as of now depends on the COVID-19 situation in Tamil Nadu to get better. Silambarasan also had been confirmed by ace filmmaker Mysskin for an upcoming project a while back, but no official word has come out yet in regard to when the shooting will begin on it. As for Simbu's next big screen appearance, he will be seen in an extended cameo in Hansika's Maha being directed by U. R. Jameel. The film has fans excited as it marks the reunion of the actor with Hansika once again after their 2015 film, Vaalu
