Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: 2 is all set to open in cinemas worldwide in a grand manner on April 28 and promotions are underway in full swing. Produced by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies and featuring music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, the epic historical action adventure film will see the lead stars from last year's Ponniyin Selvan:1 reprising their roles once again among whom include 'Chiyaan' Vikram as Aditha Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyadevan, Trisha as Kundavai, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in dual roles as Nandini and Mandakini. With the PS: 2 team kick-starting their nationwide promotional tour last week, director Mani Ratnam along with the cast of the film met the press earlier today in Chennai to address their queries. 

Upon being asked whether Arunmozhi Varman being revealed in the Ponniyin Selvan: 2 trailer after apparently shown to be possibly killed in the first installment will bring down the excitement surrounding his fate, Mani Ratnam said, "Do you think it has reduced the expectations?" We then see him telling Jayam Ravi that he should not have been shown in the PS: 2 trailer, with Vikram then coming in to extend his support to the filmmaker. The National Award-winning actor is then seen telling, "If (Jayam) Ravi were to not get featured in the trailer, you'd have probably asked why wasn't he shown while everyone else were? Would you have not asked why didn't we show him after keeping the title of the film as Ponniyin Selvan?" Vikram then asks, "First up, did you read the book or not?" When the journalist replies that he has read the book, the actor responds back saying, "Then, there's no problem because you know what happens."
