National Award-winning Tamil actor Vikram is celebrating his birthday today and has kicked off the day by treating fans to a new glimpse from his next big film, Thangalaan, being directed by acclaimed filmmaker Pa. Ranjith. Produced by Studio Green's K E Gnanavel Raja and Ranjith's Neelam Productions and featuring music by G. V. Prakash Kumar, the upcoming film is billed to be a period venture set in the pre-Independence era in the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) in Karnataka and has 'Chiyaan' Vikram once again undergoing a radical physical transformation for his role, with the latest making video giving us a look at the extent to which he has put himself to test, while also pushing himself to the farthest limits.

The new Thangalaan making video starts off showing the grand scope of the film and the team going full out in canning the shots in barren and parched lands, with hundreds of junior artistes also in full makeup and costume. We see the team working under extremely humid conditions throughout the day and the captain of the ship director Pa. Ranjith calling the shots. The making video also gives us a look at the grand production value and technicians who are hard at work in chiseling out the set properties matching the pre-Independence era. The Thangalaan video shuffles between fight scenes and Vikram going through rigorous makeup sessions where we see a completely new 'Chiyaan' unlike anything we have witnessed him before, with the visuals toward the end teasing a huge battle.
Almost 80% of production on Thangalaan had been completed as per director Pa. Ranjith, who shared the shooting update a few days back at the launch of the Vaanam Art Festival. The film is currently one of the biggest and most-awaited ventures in production and will see Vikram sharing screen space with Malayalam actress Parvathy Thiruvothu of Maryan fame, while Pasupathy has been cast in a powerful role once again after his knockout performance in Sarpatta Parambarai. Additional cast members in Thangalaan include English actor Daniel Caltagirone, who has been cast as the antagonist, followed by Master heroine Malavika Mohanan and Madras fame Harikrishnan Anbudurai set to be seen in crucial roles.
