Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan: 1, continues to enchant audiences after it premiered on Amazon Prime Video last month and is now the highest-grossing Tamil film for the year 2022 with more than 500 crores in worldwide box office collections. Produced by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies, the first installment of the epic historical action drama based on acclaimed Tamil writer Kalki Krishnamurthy's novel of the same name and featuring music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman ended on a cliffhanger note leaving fans wanting for more. Among the major aspects of PS: 1 were the songs, including the 'Sol' track, which was released in the album, but was excluded from the theatrical version of the film. In that light, Tips Tamil, the official audio label of the film, released the full 'Sol' video song on Thursday, December 8, which has been picturized on Trisha Krishnan and Sobhita Dhulipala, who portray Kundavai Devi and Vaanathi, respectively.

'Sol' has been sung by Rakshita Suresh to the lyrics penned by Krithika Nelson and garnered instant popularity among fans upon its release in the Ponniyin Selvan album. After its release, fans expected the song to be featured in the film, but many were left disappointed when it was only teased in the form of a humming. The 'Sol' song picturized on Trisha and Sobhita as Kundavai Devi and Vaanathi was set to be a big highlight showing the friendship between the two characters in PS: 1, with the glimpse now released once again leaving us spellbound with its visuals as fans on social media, are once again showering praises on filmmaker Mani Ratnam and cinematographer Ravi Varman.

Ponniyin Selvan: 1 saw 'Chiyaan' Vikram cast in the role of Aditha Karikalan, who shared screen space with Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman aka Ponniyin Selvan, followed by Karthi as Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan, Trisha as Kundavai Devi, while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan appeared in a dual role as Nandini and Mandakini Devi, and thus forming the film's core cast. Other notable names in the ensemble cast include Aishwarya Lekshmi, R. Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Jayaram, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, Ashwin Kakumanu, Nizhalgal Ravi, Lal, Vijaykumar, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, Jayachitra, Vidya Subramanian, Nassar, Kishore, Riyaz Khan, Mohan Raman to name a notable few, with all sights now set on the sequel, Ponniyin Selvan: 2, which is expected to open in cinemas in April 2023.
