Marathon Sunday in Chennai

The Chennai Marathon in aid of GiveLife got a thunderous response by the citizens of Chennai. People from all walks of life gathered at Island Grounds yesterday morning at 6.30am. The number of participants was above 50,000 and it included celebrities, students, senior citizens, corporate firm employees and representatives from voluntary organisations.

The 7 km run was flagged off by Union Sports Minister M.S. Gill. Kollywood was represented by actors Suriya, Napolean, Vignesh and Mansoor Ali Khan. With regards to the amount of response it drew, the Chennai marathon is one of the biggest. Suriya urged the runners “Be safe. Take care of the person beside you. You are running for Chennai.” MP Kanimozhi also requested the participants to be careful during the run.

Most of the participants carried placards and banners with eco-friendly messages. The marathon ended at Gandhi Statue on the Marina.
