Deepu Balakrishnan, an associate director in the Malayalam film industry, died in an unfortunate turn of events on Monday, October 10, and his demise has left the industry in shock. Deepu Balakrishnan drowned in the pond of the Koodalmanikyam Temple in Irinjalakuda, Thrissur, during the early morning hours of Monday. According to reports, Deepu Balakrishnan left his home at 5 AM in the morning to take bath at the temple pond, but did not return home within the expected time. Eventually, his family went in search of him and with the help of the Police, Fire and Rescue department, they retrieved his body from the pond around 7 AM.

Before retrieving his body, the family had seen his clothes and footwear lying near the pond, after which they informed the fire department, who reached the spot and retrieved the body. Deepu was 41 when he breathed his last. The Malayalam audiences are mourning Deepu Balakrishnan's unfortunate demise on social media and several prominent actors and technicians from the Malayalam film industry have extended their heartfelt condolences. Deepu Balakrishnan has been working in the Mollywood industry for quite a few years as an assistant / associate director and he has directed a few short films in the past.

He was expected to make his directorial debut soon. Deepu worked as an associate director in the popular Malayalam film, Urumbukal Urangarilla, directed by Jiju Asokan. The film featured Vinay Forrt, Chemban Vinod Jose, Aju Varghese, Sudheer Karamana, Musthafa, Innocent, and others in important roles. Deepu also acted in a small role in the film. He also worked as an associate in the 2018 film, Premasoothram, starring Chemban Vinod Jose and Jai Bhim fame Lijomol Jose in the lead roles. The news about Deepu Balakrishnan's demise was officially informed by the FEFKA, the Union of Directors of Malayalam cinema.

Deepu is survived by his wife Nimmi and two children - Padmasoorya and Prarthana.
