Kanal: Blessy's new Mohanlal starrer

Blessy-Mohanlal team's second film, which is to begin its shooting at the locations of Ernakulam, Coimbatore and Marayoor on February 10, is titled Kanal. It is the fifth film by Blessy as an independent director after Kaazhcha (2004), Thanmathra (2005), Palunku (2006) and Calcutta News (2008). Produced by Raju Mallaickal under the banner of Ragam Movies, Kanal will be Mohanlal’s summer release.

Mohanlal will join the sets of Kanal after completing Sagar alias Jackie - Reloaded by director Amal Neerad. Kanal will have Mohanlal playing the role of a lorry driver plying through the hill ranges of Kerala. Popular Tamil-Hindi-Telugu-Punjabi actress Bhumika Chawla is the heroine.

Lakshmi Gopalaswami has an important role alongside Murali, son of late National award winning actor Bharath Gopi. Jayaram also plays a meaty role in this film. After 20 years, noted cameraman Ajay Vincent, son of director Vincent, is making a comeback to Malayalam with this film, which is likely to be completed in one schedule.

Blessy's previous venture with Mohanlal was the much-acclaimed Thanmathra (2005), which portrays the effects of Alzheimer's disease on the life of an individual and his family. Thanmathra bagged five Kerala state film awards: Best Film, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Screenplay and a special mention for the debutant actor Arjun Lal. It also won eight Asianet Film Awards in 2006.
